Next on Weekend Update....

lensmanSo I didn't end up going down to NYC at all this weekend....
Friday was my bosses batchelor party... and it started off on a good note...
He had e-mailed me earlier in the day, and the bonus I had been told about had come through.... (the only down side was that they took nearly half of it in taxes... I just hope it dosesn't end up screwing me in the end on next years taxes, but hey there is still enough left to payt my back taxes from 2000 that I was just notified about...)
Every silver lining must have it's cloud.... :-/
There was of course a change in plans and I didn't go down to NYC, because B thought it would be a waste for me to come down on Sat only to have to head back today...
Her mom's spirts are up a bunch, and she is now already at the point where she's irritating B... But her over all health is still not good... They are finally getting some continuity of care and getting assigned Dr's for her various needs...
According to B she still looks like she is wasting away, and she's not eating (which supports the whole watsing away observation)....
So we all piled into the cars and headed down to the Foxy in Providence... It looked like fun was had by all... Our boss wasn't going to have himself thrown into the ringer, so with a bit of quick thinking, and the fact that one of the other guys on the team is also going to be getting hitched soon we threw him in.. (At least he can't fire us...) and it gave us a way to guilt the original target into at least having a suporting role... Which of course meant that he got his own bit of torture... :-) It's just too bad they ruined his shirts (tore them right up)...
After driving home through some of the worst fog I've seen on 93... (But it sobered the guys I was driving right up).... I got home around 2:30am... and wnet to sleep for many hours.... When I awaoke sat I took care of the cats and headed out to the nearest hobby shop to get paints and glue... When I got back I started working on the NX-01 Enterprise model....
I went into our supply closet to get some spray paint to use as primer, and found two sets of Krylon Mystique that B had purchased because she like the color effetcs.... They certainly looked interesting and so I used them and did up the display base and I have to say I'm quite impressed witht he stuff, and happy about the way it turned out... One side is a sort of sparkeling Magenta/Gold, and the other side has an arcing and sparkeling Blue/Purple.... I'l have to get the camera out and try taking a picture of it soon....
Then I started in on the major pices for test fit, and any needed trimming, I glued yo the first part of the engineering section and warp nacell pylons... the I trimed away some sections to allow the wires to pass through up to te nacells....
Next I started in on the warp nacell coils and instead of traditional lights I used two strands of Electo-Luminesent wire (or "Glow-wire").... After talking to B that evening, she liked the sound of what I did for the base and even made a suggestion about the wire coil I was consideing. I was going to just coil the wire around a pencil or something, but at her suggestion I ended up coiling the wire around two pieces of clear hose, and when I lit them up it makes for a great effect...
Today was spent with another run to the hobby shop to get the rest of the paints, and to do a quick look for lighting ideas for the other sections of the ship (windows, running lights, impulse engine, and the bussard ram collectors on the frount of the warp nacells)...
I'll probably just do traditional fiber-optics fro some of the smaller sections (like around the hanger doors), but some of the windows are pretty large...
Also I need to think about running the wires up from the display base. That'll be a bit trickier as the connecting "legs" from the base are clear plastic.... I'm currently thinking I'll run the wires up one of the legs and mask it slightly with some more EL-wire....
