An out of band, emergency patch for MS Windows systems.... According to the ISC it's critical for Windows Systems prior to Vista (But still important for those ones too as there is an active exploit in the wild, and IT's Potentially WORMABLE. Just great...)

Patch early..., Patch often...

Slightly overslept, but managed to miss nearly all the traffic between home and work. Only to get into work just in time for my bosses boss to introduce me to a new hire that is starting today, and oh and btw do we have a computer setup for her... (Umm no, because nobody told me there would be a new hire starting TODAY.)

Sheesh, I mean it's not like they didn't have a clue they were hiring someone for this position it was the first one of 4 that needed to be hired (so of course it was the last one they filled.)
Also I didn't already have a full day of "interesting new server" setup planned and had gotten more e-mail from a researcher who wants new software.

Now where the hell did I leave that damn hat with all the rabbit's in it....

I have a super new monster toy to play with, and I'm looking for suggestions/discussion to consider for it's setup.

Here what it needs to do:
- multiple users with remote desktop connections (Initially 2-3, Max I think would be about 6)
- running long simulations/analysis of optimizations (Applications are all MS Windows based)
- Background MySQL and/or MS-SQL DB servers
- If possible it should be a part of our central AD domain. (For user auth and file share access, not required for base OS as there are other intricacies that makes this optional, but it would let me offload user account mgnt.)

But other than those constraints I'm open as to how I implement this on the new HW. So what would the other techies on my f-list recommend:
- Virtualization (Options include VMware Workstation, something I can download free from internet, or Windows Terminal Server)
- Base OS (Options include Windows [XP64, Vista64, Server2008x64], or Linux [RH5x64 prefered, but not mandatory])

Any other ideas I should consider?

What I'm leaning towards now is:
- Linux OS Base
- VMWare VM's Running Windows for:
-- DB's
-- Separate XP App machines (Each user gets their own VM to play in)

Anyone want to try to help me with this. I have a DB with 2 tables (users and instance) a bunch of records were deleted from the users table, and I want to find record id numbers and a record name from the instance table that have userid's that have been deleted and that are of a type "Catagory".... I've got most of the statement working, but the "userid not in users.userid" doesn't because I'm not sure how to refer to the column as a list....

SELECT t1.userid, t1.iid, t1.name FROM instance t1, users t2 WHERE ( ??? ) AND ( t1.IsA = "Category" ) ORDER BY t1.userid ASC;

Okay I have Apache Tomcat 5 installed and it appears to be working. I can get to the admin pages, the manager pages, and all the examples.

Gave the developer access to upload their portal app, they copied it into place, and nothing....

description The requested resource (/portal/) is not available.

I'm sitting here in work after gaming today with everyone soo worried about the snow. and what do we have.....

A little slush....

Oh well from looking at the storm tracks it looks like they got some in the western parts of the state.

Well At least the game was fun. (Ok This sessions was a little too predictable for my tastes, but they all can't be winners)

Hmmm a little review of past events after my last post:

B saw my last post and brought some cold meds by my office on her way out shopping. :-) (btw - I'm startig to feel better for those who sent their wishes along)

Friday was a boring day at work, but I did manage to fix a couple of problems. A came down with whatever I have as well.

A and I were a little snippy with each other this morning. She's been putting in soo many weird hours at work, I think she needs to get away.

Arisia is just around the corner. (I need a break from that, next year If I do anything it will be at the con only. 4 years in a row is enough)

Next I think I'll be heading into pick A up from work. Still not sure what we're doing for NYE yet, A has to work till 6pm tommorow. :-(

But at least we both have Monday off.

Ok the holidays are over and it back to work.

Friday, Finished the last minute food shooping before the holiday after work and then got a chance to swing by and see B before she left for her trip to see friends and family. (She got us dinner, that was really nice.)

I went to pick up what I thought was going to be A ast present, but opps they sold out, and then no where else had it either. So I changed plans and got something else.

They changed A's schedule at the last minute and she had to work x-mas eve. (and when I went to pick her up, her boss and her were both running late trying to get everything done themselves. I hope they give A. a big raise for all the effort she's giving them.)

Woke up yesterday and gave A her presents, and she made cinamon rolls. It was a nice quiet day for the two of us.

Then it was off to dinner with my family (For all the teasing we gave her my sister did a wonderful job) :-)

And my niece had everyone just wrappped around her little finger with "Santa forgot my Barbie airplane" At least untill she started opening the other presents, then she forgot all about that. :-)

Over all it was a good weekend, but I wish it had been longer. I'm SOOO used to the automatic vacation form my last job. (They just gave us the extra week off every year, for the last 8 or so)

And then to start the day off bright. I found another wonderful lady has added me as a friend.

I've been banging my head against a problem (Writing a software installer) for a week now, and enlightenment just dawned..... :-)

Next I just need to get it to edit one of the files correctly and then I can start to make it look nice. :-)

Well It's monday again. *Blarg.......* :-/

My head hurts. Maybe it's a reaction to the smoke I was inhaling last night, although I've never had that happen before. That or a combination of the various alcohols.... (even though it wasn't much by way of quantity) It's time to sit down and decide on another batch or two to make.

Ok now lets see, maybe a reverse order weekend in review:

Yesterday started with sleeping late :-)
Getting up to take A. for a eye exam. This made her happy. Her contacts have been bothering her. then we spent got lunch at, and went to look at the new mall. (It might be nice when they finish it, but damn there are soo many friggin malls now)
got home from that last night, and almost immeadiately went to a friends place with A. Her friends were trashed by the time we got there. They had started many hours beforehand. It was nice seeing them, but was pretty silly otherwise.

Sat: Drop A. off at work. I hope she's happy with new job but retail sucks this time of year. Went to my bi-weekly game. :-) Ok staring to get back into charaters head space [The GM had taken a month or off for something silly like getting married. :-) ] Pick A. up from work and went dinner and home.

Fri: Drop A. off at work. Spent a quiet morning at B.'s waiting for her to return. Tea and TV. :-) Went to lunch, came back, and just as we would start to get in the mood something would interupt us. Heh.... :-) Oh well life happens. Met B.'s ex, felt a little awkward, but he seems like a nice guy.

Thu: Ahh sleeping late.... :-) was just finishing showering when parental units called to see if we would be making it to Thanksgiving dinner. The whole gang was there, I'm glad sibling squabble is over.

Wed: Work was not good last week, I will hopefully find out more details today.... :-/ I hope job doesn't blow up from under me. Went out to the club. It was good to get out and for A. to get out, all it seems she's had the time or energy for is work. Found out a friend is moving (at this point has moved) to Las Vegas..... Wow well I wish him luck. A. had a chance to flirt a bit with someone else.
