Actually, it was Bail Organa, Mon Mothma, Padme and other Senators . . . of course that part was cut from Episode III (but was in the novelization).

Because the type of droid R2 was wasn't really considered intelligent - they didn't know they had to erase anything so they didn't. :)

How would we know if Leia has? Also, fan sentiment is that her force powers are what permitted her to remember Padme in ROTJ (saying her real mother 'was beautiful but sad'). As for Luke's skills, there is reference to him being a decent pilot but nobody mentions the skill being amazing (in the same vein as Pod racer dad).

This guy seems to definitely favor the non-human underdog (R2 and Chewie) in his story, interesting, but it doesn't gel with a lot of the expanded universe stuff (which though not movie cannon does need to be approved by Lucas to be published) . . .
