Apr. 20th, 2003 11:49 pmWow....
Due to living a life I didn't get to much of this con until today....
Unfortunately the Con had to "Officially" close it's doors YESTERDAY as they reached their hotel imposed max limit of 4000 (yes four thousand) attendees by approx 1pm on Sat.
Not bad for the first year a con runs. From what I hear the original expectations were for approx 800 total attendees, and then they got approx 1300 PRE-registrations.... Poor guys had their socks, mystical armours, mechas, and sailor school girl uniforms blown off....
Ok the dealers room wasn't quite what I was hoping for. I found one okay deal on a DVD, but they did have some cool Gundam model kits and one of the largest BGM selections I've seen. But most of it was for some of the newer shows that I'm not farmiliar with, and not sure I want to bother with yet.... We'll see....
The Video Rooms were pretty good for what little I saw of them as well.
Big surprise as I walked in to Ops to ask about registraion.... There was one of the Arisia people. :-) Even bigger surprise later when the Arisia ConChair walked in..... (Am I conveying evnough SARCASM in my "suprise" here?) :-)
Another suprise I ended up volenteering to help out a bit, being a person with a bit of clue on hand.... Ended up helping to get a kid left at the Con while his gaurdian had been hauled off to the hospital earlier in the morning, reunited with the guy at the hospt....Good thing my clue bit happened to inclue a sister who works at the hospt in question, got the direct numbers that way..... :-)
But helping out and sharing clue got me a free badge to the con so WooHoo....
Some of the COSPLAY in the Hall Costumes was really good, Some was passable... only one "felt" wrong to me.... I mean I guess it was a good attemp at a "Matel" costume, but the person inside just didn't fit the image in my mind... Okay nobody is going to "perfectly" fit any anime character in a live costume. Hair just dosn't DO THAT in real life ;-) Now the person with them that did the "conductor" was ok, he (or was it a she I couldn't tell in the costume) wasn't bad. Not short enough or fat enough, but a it "felt" like it made for a better overall effect.... Of course who the hell am I to judge I don't CosPlay......
