According to this story, Trained rescue personel are being brought in by FEMA not to do rescue work, but to act as community relations, and they aren't even being given any direct info to help the survivors, just the FEMA 1-800 number. Okay that might be useful IF THESE PEOPLE HAD PHONES!!! What dumb-assed gov official didn't think this part through...

I especially like how 50 of the 1000 or so voluntered firefighters were tasked with being Bush's escort. Sure beats handing out pamphlets, hey?

"I would go back and ask the firefighter to revisit his commitment to FEMA, to firefighting and to the citizens of this country," said FEMA spokeswoman Mary Hudak.

That's the best, isn't it?

In some part to FEMA's defense, one of FEMA's roles is to coordinate the delivery of funds to disaister survivors. This appears to be the only part of the thier task they are capable of performing.

Capable yes, but that's an accounting problem... You just need people good at math for that. These guys are trained in Search and Rescue they'd have been better put to use for that function. Plus these guys said they were being asked to do PR work. They were not being given info about distributing funds... The number of ways FEMA has been messing up is just rediculous....
