[ISO] Mac OSX Help
Jul. 28th, 2006 11:26 pmOkay, I'll admit I've let my Mac Skilz go somewhat to pot....
and I have need to setup one of these beasties up.....
Dual G5 1U with 3x500Gb in mirrored RAID... {I found out today that they goofed up the RAID card cost and decided against getting RAID 5} At least they DID get a video card, and I've "discovered" the joy that is getting VNC to work on a headless Mac system...
apogeeperigee Had managed to get OS 10.4.7 onto the beast, and got the basic network configured. Is there a good reference for locking down the IP ports (IPSec or BSD firewall rules)
I spent a good part of the day getting various ports packages and other components installed. (Darwinports, Fink, X11, Fink commander, Port Authority) But after getting them in there They didn't seem to do what I wanted, or more likey I'm mis-reading the package info and not seeing what I'm looking for. I also got Webmin installed, and started in on the list of perl modules I need.
But now I'm onto the meat of wha this thing needs to do and I'm looking for good explanations of upgraing the "built-in" versions of Apache and MySQL with some better options.
I need Apache 2.0.55 or better with OpenSSL and dynamic modules (Mod-Perl) PHP (Preferably 5, and Zend Optimizer), AWSTATS, MySQL 4.1.21 (Unfortunately I can't try out any of the 5 tree yet due to problems with the perl code I need to use. Yeah I've been bitching at that vendor for a while now, about getting that, buit thats low pri to them.)
I started with MySQL and and runnig into problems (It SAYS that it installed and I even have the nice System Pref app that starts and stos the bugger, but nothing I do is letting me in to the root account of the default DB and I can't even change the bloddy password.... ARRGGG!!!) It was 7 PM and the thunderstorms were rolling in so I bailed for the night, but if any of the tech geeks in LJ land want to lend a brother some good pointers....

Date: 2006-07-31 03:33 am (UTC)are you running X or X Server? whichever, i’d recommend not mucking with the stock packages from Apple, but instead installing your own somewhere else and using those.
