Yeah I think these numbers are the country's total, and I don't remember if or how much of a deficit Regan started off with but then Bush senior didn't over spend as much as his son has. Since W started out with spending the surplus Billy left him.

I was darkly and cynically amused to see Herr Bush's remarks wrt the Georgian/Russian conflict this morning, about how no nation should invade a sovereign country and it's just not the right thing to do in the 21st century.

Yeah I believe that he thinks that "Irony" is a liberal vitamin supplement...

Although I suppose W's and McCain's handlers will try and spin it so that it's okay as long as the sovereign country being invaded is first declared to be a state sponsor of terrorists.

I'm still getting a handle on those numbers myself, but from a quick read of this wikipedia article on the US Public Debt and the second graph they look to be in the same appox range.
