Okay so now only having just watched the trailers I posted... I'm going to try and guess a bit more of the plot to see which way they're going to go with this...

So we see a second man who claims the title of the Dr., and of Time-Lord. He knows of the TARDIS even to claiming to have his companion get back to it, and has a Sonic Screwdriver.... They are facing off against Cybermen, in an industrial revolution era setting, but he makes no acknowledgment of recognition of our Dr.....

The first thing I note is that this new Dr. has a much more "SteamPunk" look to both him & his companion.

So the question is will this be a REAL Time-Lord or someone who is trying to pass themselves off as the Dr.? The Dr. has dealt with running into himself in the past (or the Future, it's really hard to say on that one) :-) But the fact that the new Dr doesn't recognize the current Dr does lead you to think it's going to be some sort of fake, but I'm guessing he is going to be what he claims....

The "SteamPunk" look and the Cybermen together were both first seen when the Cybermen broke through from the "Alternate" reality (Which was supposedly sealed up...), where everyone except Rose had a duplicate. You'll remember that the view from "Alternate Universe Torchwood 1" at Canarry Wharf had Zeplins in the background.

So, at the end of last season we see Rose and her team break through the sealed barrier to help the Dr one last time... You can see where I'm going with this now?

The "Alternate universe Dr." was either chasing the Cybermen through the barrier, and got caught on the wrong side. Or possibly our Dr. was pulled through to that side again (maybe even on purpose just to have a look around)... Either way we get multiple Dr's....

It could also be a paradox caused by two other things.... the episode with the Doctor's Daughter (the female clone) or the episode with the companion he was meeting for the first time for him and the last time for her....

Though the attitude and style of this extra doctor seems to have some resemblance to the 2nd Baker doctor, but with a less garish wardrobe. So maybe he is the new one.... he doesn't always recognize himself....

Or he could be another surviving timelord pretending to be the doctor...

Hmm If it were a temporal paradox with the Female clone I think that would get into a realm of gender confusion that I don't think the BBC would be touching on yet... (Capt Jack seems about as racy as they want to go so far), but even if they did; I think "She" would recognize her "Dad"...

Any other Temporal Paradox where he meets himself I'm certain one would recognize the other... I don't recall any eps where that wasn't the case. In fact I remember that a few combination's don't actually seem to like one another. (Which probably has various psychologists hopping in there seats) :-)

As for other surviving Time-Lords... I just can't see any of them as WANTING to impersonate the Dr... (Well maybe the Master, if he had some plan to mess with the Dr. reputation)...
