Jun. 9th, 2009 01:18 pmOne Fifth of World's Population Can't See Milky Way At Night...
This just reminds me of the first time B went up to Griffin Grove and we were all sitting out in the jacuzzi watching the stars when B asks: "What are all those dusty stars?" Having grown up in Manhattan, and then living in Boston/Cambridge She'd never seen the Milky Way before. :-)
Now if only there were some way to both maintain safety, and cut down on light pollution...

Date: 2009-06-09 07:13 pm (UTC)Also, I've read that one should keep the bedroom so dark you can't see your hand in front of your face, otherwise the light from electric clocks, or even from street lights outside the window, hits your retina, even through closes eyelids, interferes with melantonin production and screws with sleep patterns, hormones, etc. One reason why we're all "spent", need too much caffeine to get through the day, are aging faster, and get more infections/viruses. Interesting theory, wonder if it holds any water.

Date: 2009-06-10 02:41 am (UTC)Now, they are all gone. (the roosters were allowed to roam free. Bigger critters got them for their dinner.)
Chickens and ducks don't make noise (or much) at night. Even on a full moon.
(it get's very dark, here, at night when the moon is new)
