One Fifth of World's Population Can't See Milky Way At Night...

This just reminds me of the first time B went up to Griffin Grove and we were all sitting out in the jacuzzi watching the stars when B asks: "What are all those dusty stars?" Having grown up in Manhattan, and then living in Boston/Cambridge She'd never seen the Milky Way before. :-)

Now if only there were some way to both maintain safety, and cut down on light pollution...

Here too! ALL night long. I never heard that before, though, just this year. Sounds like a carnival barker, trying to lure in customers (or female birds to nest): "Get yer red hot nest right here ladies! Move in condition! Wall-to-wall twigs! Sturdy construction! Live-in 24/7 stud!"

Also, I've read that one should keep the bedroom so dark you can't see your hand in front of your face, otherwise the light from electric clocks, or even from street lights outside the window, hits your retina, even through closes eyelids, interferes with melantonin production and screws with sleep patterns, hormones, etc. One reason why we're all "spent", need too much caffeine to get through the day, are aging faster, and get more infections/viruses. Interesting theory, wonder if it holds any water.

to make it special
i have a melanin deficiency; vitaligo; my immune system has decided that color in my skin and hair are things attacking me.
so i have white skin.
like
Albino/I can see your blood vessels
skin.

on a boy from a family from southern spain. swarthy? black hair? white stripes?
love my life.
this means that - in a normally lit room, if i close my eyes - i can still see movment.
i wear a blind fold and earplugs to sleep.

You should try living with roosters (yes, there were several at one time) outside your bedroom window. On a full moon night, they would crow all night long. They were, eventually, put into a dog crate at night and covered with a blanket.
Now, they are all gone. (the roosters were allowed to roam free. Bigger critters got them for their dinner.)
Chickens and ducks don't make noise (or much) at night. Even on a full moon.
(it get's very dark, here, at night when the moon is new)

Yeah, we don't see it often, but it's pretty awesome when you do...

I had a similar experience to B's when I went camping in Maine the first time. It is awe inspiring.
