And MS SQL Server.......

Add to that the the restore process was NOT as easily obvious as re-install OS & Backup software then run restore. NO must re-install OS to new location first.....

and it didn't back up in use files like the Master.mdf Arrggg!!!

how were you backing it up? we have a sql backup job that dumps the database to a backup file, then that backup file is picked up by ntbackup, to avoid the file in use hoo-hah.

I inherited this machine, and assumed the original Admin had set it up correctly to do that. (They had originally used DAT tapes but the Original backup software sucked major balls so I upgraded it to TSM. I didn't look for the SQLservwer backups. (because I assumed they did it right the first time). The TSM restor was inobvious about original file locations and would corrupt it's ntoskrnl.exe file.

All this cause some script kiddie wanted to host some fan-sub anime on one of the SLOWEST subnets on this campus.... Sheesh
