End of an era
Dec. 27th, 2004 04:30 pmWell this will only make sence to some of you who know about a certain university's student e-mail system....
But I just got mail from another friend, that they are finally going to shut down Lynx....
Back in the day we used to see if we could get enough people into the computer lab to cause that system to reject the sys admins from logging in since it could only handle a total of 32 simultaneous people logged in at one time.... (It was only slightly more of a challenge when they upgraded the system so that it could handle the unprecedented 64 simul logins....)
At first this wasn't much more than an over glorified bbs, that let us try to be a bit more organized.... But eventually they got e-mail working on it... (Heh the original programmer accidentally erased the source code for the systems e-mail, so instead of reloading it, he built the student e-mail out of the chat system... what a bad hack that was)

Date: 2004-12-28 10:34 pm (UTC)Not from me they didn't... :-) Now the B&N got a lot of our money at the time (Though they had to split a buch of that with NU)... But I've been exacting my revenge and charging them $$$ for fixing their computers.... (Because it turns out they haven't found anyone else who seems to be able to do it) :-)
